Are you thinking about redecorating your house in 2016? Or perhaps you just want to bring it up to date without doing anything major? Here are some of the latest trends in decoration and interior design that are not only awesome but are here to stay.
Trend #1 Sustainable design
Sustainable architecture is an unstoppable trend and its principals are being increasingly applied to interior design. In 2016 we will see this trend reflected in the importance of natural materials, produced ecologically, reducing the impact of chemical substances in homes and making them healthier.
This trend can really be seen in wood, with finishes that highlight textures and natural shapes that are increasingly used in luxury interiors.
Trend #2 Decorative crafts
From wicker baskets to macramé curtains, handcrafted decorative items are all the rage. Handicrafts comply with the principals of sustainable design and also have the added advantage of being unique objects that when combined with other manufactured products create interiors with character.
Trend #3 Emphasis on metal
The groundbreaking trend in decoration for 2016 is the use of metallic finishes that add a touch of glamour and sophistication to any space. Metal highlights that are added to designs go from silver and chrome to gold and copper. One important development in the use of metallic materials is how easily they can be combined. The fear has gone out of composition and one type of metal can be used as a main feature and small focal points in another metal are added to create contrast.
Trend #4 Electronics in their place
With everyday life becoming increasingly more dependent on new technologies, the trend in decoration is to create technology-free areas to allow room for family time. Televisions are banished from kitchens and bedrooms and are replaced by fireplaces in the living room. Corners are assigned for using laptops or video consoles and common areas are free from electronic devices.
Trend #5 Rose Quartz and Serenity blue
Every year the Pantone Color Institute announces the upcoming colour of the year. Pantone has surprised us with its choice of two colours as “colour of the year” for 2016: Rose Quartz and a colour called Serenity, a very soft blue tone with touches of grey. The colours chosen by the Pantone Color Institute are based on trends from all over the world that can be seen on runways, in decoration, in cinema and other areas of popular culture. They can already be found in decoration, such as fabrics, tiles, wall paint and other decorative elements.
